The Commissioner for Revenue  is responsible for the administration and collection of income tax (including Capital Gains & Tax on Property Transfers), Duty on Documents & Transfers, Value added Tax and  Customs & Excise duties. The Department is also responsible for the collection of Social Security Contributions.

 

The Malta Business Registry (MBR), established under Subsidiary Legislation 595.27, is responsible for the registration of new commercial partnerships, the registration of documents related to commercial partnership, the issuing of certified documentation including certificates of good-standing amongst others, the reservation of company names, the collection of registration and other fees, the publication of notices and the imposition and collection of penalties. The Registry also conducts investigations of companies and the keeping of the company and partnership register.

 

Identity Malta Agency was established in 2013 by virtue of Subsidiary Legislation 497.07 and is responsible for citizens’ identity management and the implementation of migration processes. The government agency offers a specialized public service in matters relating to acts of civil status, eID cards, epassports, visas, expatriates affairs and the registration of public deeds. These functions were grouped under one corporate body, which has its own separate legal identity and is governed by the Public Administration Act (Cap. 497). Identity Malta Agency is rooted towards offering a quality service without compromising security.

Community Malta Agency is a Government Agency
established through Community Malta Agency (Establishment) Order (S.L. 595.38) which is responsible for administering and processing all Maltese citizenship-related matters.

This includes accepting and processing applications for the acquisition of Maltese citizenship by birth, by registration, by naturalisation through long term residence, for exceptional services by merit, and for exceptional services by direct investment in Malta.

 

Residency Malta Agency is the Government entity responsible for managing and promoting Malta’s residency-by-investment programme.
